HEY THANKS FOR READING
Thoughts on Tarot, History, and Weird Shit
Yo, Tarot Peeps. I haven’t uttered those three iconic words in some time. As with most things surrounding my Tarot journey, if you can call it such, life got in the way. The constant act of juggling single parenthood with trying to set up a business aside, life’s been a wild ride for sure.
But the wildness has come with a cost, namely, I’ve put my place in this community of spirituals, mystics, and weirdos aside. This is an injustice! Or not. But I want to come back! If you’ll have me, of course.
Hey Thanks For Reading is going to be a weekly newsletter/blog post/essay/whateverthefuck dedicated to everything a lot of us weirdos love. Occultism, spirituality, ghost stories, paganism, Tarot, cryptids, and strange historical factoids all summed up as the verbal vomit that makes up my musings. So without further self-absorbed nattering, enjoy.
Tarot For Journaling
I get asked a lot why I don’t offer Tarot readings. It’s not that I can’t do them; I can. I’ve read for friends and family and they’ve always been pleased with my insights. So why don’t I do spreads for that cold hard cash?
I use Tarot as journal prompts. How does that work exactly? Much like anything else I guess. As most Tarot users know, the imagery and symbolism in the Tarot can offer wonderful clarity when we just can’t get a sense where to go next. Great stuff, if you ask me. So by tapping into those wonderfully esoteric stories you can really open up your creative juices when putting your thoughts down to paper.
We all do daily draws, right? You sometimes have a question that needs asking, a problem that needs a solution, or guidance when you feel lost. So you reach for the cards, shuffle shuffle shuffle, draw a card and presto! As if by archetypical magic you’ve got at least AN answer of some kind. Now write it down.
I find writing it all down as the best practice of putting the cards’ messages into measurable action. A lot of mental health professionals suggest journaling as an effective means to begin to untangle our messy brains, right? I offer that Tarot journaling can do that for faith, belief, practice, or whatever. Please note, people, this is for personal readings only. You’re not going to find a tall, dark, handsome stranger to rescue you from whatever plight currently plagues you by writing down what a piece of cardboard told you.
I’m sure we all do this already, but some people have expressed confusion when I tell them “I don’t do readings, I only use Tarot for journaling”. So if that confuses you, consider yourself enlightened, I don’t know. And maybe the next time you pull a card, try writing it down.
Tarot of the Day 28 May 2022
Death and The Star are our cards of the day, and their significance are noteworthy. Death, as we know, symbolizes new beginnings, fresh changes, and a shake up to old habits. The Star is that guiding light that helps us attain what we set out to day.
I’ve got some exciting projects in the works. It has all the trappings of new beginnings, and my excitement for it will be my Star to keep me on the path. Good stuff. And once again, hey… thanks for reading.
